Overspent on Furniture

You guysssss!!! Hubby and I did SO MUCH shopping last week with all the Thanksgiving sales. I just paid all of my credit card statements and nearly had a heart attack. We decided to be “practical” and only buy essentials for the house….but as per usual, I did sneak in a couple of non-furniture or house related things :). Shhh don’t tell him.

We literally furnished our entire house after a week of shopping. Here are the deals we found so hopefully, it helps someone out 🙂

Living Room:

Remember the Macy’s couch in my last blog post? We bought it and absolutely love it. So much more affordable and comparable to the Ethan Allen one. The Ethan Allen sales person has called and emailed me….he’s not getting our hints. My hubby was responsible for finding a TV deal. Of course, he comes home with the biggest TV he could fit on our wall. A 65 inch one but I’m not complaining about it. Now we can watch Game of Thrones and feel like we’re in a movie theater (date nights out will be limited after this massive spending spree…).

We had a bunch of gift cards from our wedding so we wanted to find a coffee table and a TV console from Bed Bath & Beyond (we LOVE this store btw). Since our hardwood floors are a brownish/gray color, we wanted to find a slightly different wood color that would compliment our floors and came across this Edison Walker coffee table and TV console.

We love that the TV console has closed drawers so we can store things (aka boardgame collection) but will also keep our place looking tidy. Plus, when we have kiddos in the future, they can’t pull all the TV/cable box cords. It has dark metal hinges which match the legs on our dining room table. We wiped our all of our gift cards and used a 20% off coupon for each item. HECK YES to extra savings!

Dining Room:

Seriously, if you’re looking for a dining room table that seats 8 people, we HIGHLY suggest the IKEA Skogsta table. The natural wood surface is beautiful and contrasts nicely with the dark table legs. Two things you should know… it’s SOLID wood and priced at ONLY $399. Check other furniture stores that sell solid wood pieces, you won’t find this price. Who would’ve thought there would be solid furniture at IKEA? We had no idea but it looks like they’re definitely stepping up their quality game. My hubby and I saw this and immediately fell in love. Since we didn’t have a truck to haul it back, we decided to borrow one and come back the following weekend. When we came back, they were completely sold out….all 13 within a few days. We pretty much had to stalk their inventory checker for the next shipment to snag one. We didn’t like the chairs/bench that matched this table for 2 reasons. 1) The bench is ridiculously tiny. For some weird reason, it’s NOT the same length of the table. You need at least 2 benches to make it look balanced. 2) The standard wooden chairs just looked uncomfortable. We wanted to find black wooden chairs that had an attached cushion. My hubby actually found these padded chairs from Overstock and it’s perfect. Best of both worlds and it matches the dining table perfectly.

Bedroom:

Hubby and I have back problems and we wanted to invest in a nice mattress. He did a TON of research on many brands and ended up going for the Purple mattress. If you look at the price, it’s insane but just think about the fact that we all need a good nights sleep and use it every day. Cost per use right? It’s one of those new mattresses that ship in a box and deflate. We haven’t gotten it yet but I’ll be sure to take pictures of the process and provide a review. Considering the price, it better sleep like a freakin’ cloud lol.

Since our home has a ton of wood furnishings, we wanted to add a different texture/fabric to the mix. I decided a velvet/velour tufted headboard would look nice and came across this one from Bed Bath & Beyond. It looks like a bougie headboard to match our bougie mattress.

To maximize storage, my hubby wanted a bed frame that would 1) be sturdy and 2) allow us to put storage boxes underneath. He found this one on Amazon with stellar reviews. We think it’s comparable to the one Purple sells but is slightly cheaper.

P.S. you can still use expired BBB coupons. I have a whole stash of these saved up because who doesn’t love an additional 20% off everythinh

Office:

You guys…. we found the BEST desk. EVER. We both have careers where we sit literally the entire day. For someone who has major back issues, it can get pretty uncomfortable after 8-9 hours of minimal movement/constant slouching. Costco had an insane deal and was selling the Tresanti adjustable desks for $199. The day the sale started, hubby and I rushed to Costco to each buy one. We think it’s some preliminary price before it enters the market because there was limited inventory at our local store and it’s no longer listed on their website. BBB is selling it for $360.

That’s (almost) everything we bought….spent way too much. Did you guys score any good deals? Comment below and help make my wallet feel better 🙂

Couches are EXPENSIVE.

Ellooooo, it’s me again. 🙂 As per usual, I’ve been MIA again. Hubby and I have been dealing with a home renovation project that’s been dragging for months. I love HGTV but it’s definitely not a depiction of reality…

First things first. We had to get holiday drinks at Starbucks. Currently BOGO (buy one, get one free) 😛

We’re finally in the home stretch and now have to figure how what to furniture pieces we want to buy and where to buy it. There are so many furniture stores (even more options online), definitely gets overwhelming. Our mistake so far was waiting ’til the last minute to order a sectional couch. FYI it actually takes 4-6 weeks upon purchase. We didn’t think about it and will probably end up sitting on our floors until it delivers.

Hubby and I did some research on quality furniture stores and came across Ethan Allen so we decided to check it out. They have absolutely beautiful pieces and when we walked in, we immediately fell in love with this couch:

You don’t realize how expensive couches really are until you buy your first one. We loved the color and fabric of this one and the tag price was about $2k. Not TOO bad right? They also had a 20% off promotion going on for the month of November. Woohoo!!!

After talking to the sales person, we asked for an estimate and the couch in the photo is actually…dun dun dunnnnn $4k. 😵 The 2k was just for the two seater cushions and does not include the chaise. I’m not sure what my facial expression was but I was in shock. For our home, to add another seat or two would increase the cost even more. Love the couch but not willing to spend a fortune when we have an entire house to furnish.

Does anyone have any couch recommendations? Of course we want durability and something that looks similar to the Ethan Allen one but without that price tag. I did some research and found an affordable option from Macy’s. Here’s the BEST PART, it’s priced at $1,799. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 Now it just seems like a steal 😂🙈

Side note: Not essential but I definitely need a full length mirror for outfit of the days. 😉

Outfit details:

  • Ralph Lauren boots (purchased from Macy’s a couple years ago)
  • Leggings (my go to choice for pants #basic)
  • Sweater from Macy’s
  • Leopard print scarf from Target
  • Burberry quilted jacket

Attention Shopaholics – Here’s How to Maximize Savings and Earn Cash Back!

Hi guys, sorry it’s been a while. Work has been insanely busy. I was sent on my first work trip for the year since starting this new gig (check out my insta for a few photos – yes, I will be better at taking more photos/posting). My days are consumed by full work days and the gym (in desperate need of a vacay….STAT).

I got my September Cash Back Statement email from Ebates today which sparked the idea for today’s blog post. Basically…If you’re a shopaholic like me, I highly suggest you sign up for ebates. Honestly, years ago my cousin told me about this website but I was skeptical and didn’t do it. I could’ve saved MORE money had I listened to him. In 2013, I decided to give it a go and have been addicted since. I recommend downloading their widget because every time you’re online surfing, a notification will appear showing the % cash back on that particular website (see below). The cash back percentage depends on the retailer but sometimes there are double cash back promotions so keep an eye out for that.

It is so convenient and easy, right? If I’m shopping in the store and it’s available online, I typically opt to buy online because I get cash back from my credit card but ALSO ebates (gotta maximize savings when you’re a shopaholic and every dollar adds up!).

I’ve been a member since December of 2013 and my lifetime cash back is $530.70. Insane right? It’s a win-win. If you’re going to end up buying things online, you might as well take advantage of cash back benefits here and there. Either way, you’re gonna buy the items anyway right?

Here’s a summary of my “big chat check” history….yes, I downloaded the ebates app for when I do shopping off my phone 😉

Do yourself a favor and sign up for ebates. You’re welcome and happy cash back!! The more you save, the more you can spend hahaha (sorry, I am an enabler). It is way past my bedtime. Thank goodness tomorrow is Friday!! Whoohoo!Screen Shot 2017-07-17 at 9.26.04 PM

Limited Time: David Yurman Online Exclusive Renaissance Aluminum Bracelets Are Back!

Hi everyone! I have always admired the David Yurman jewelry collection and finally purchased my first cable bracelet a few months back (and I must say, I am HOOKED). I was intending on adding another bracelet to start my “arm candy” collection so the timing is perfect!

I just received an email announcing a David Yurman Online Exclusive Renaissance Aluminum Bracelet for $250! If you’re familiar with the DY line, you’ll know this price is significantly lower than their classic pieces. I don’t own an aluminum material bracelet but I figure why not try it? Worst case, I can return and the best part is that they’re also doing a promotional freebie for each order (of course, while supplies last). I wasn’t planning to spend money today but bit the bullet when I saw the email in my inbox. Two bracelets for the price of one? (Yes, how I justified it to my hubby… also told him it’s an anniversary gift to myself). Gift to me, from me.

So many color options but I stuck with the classic gray. I figured it would compliment my Prasiolite 7mm cable bracelet (purchased here).

Happy shopping! Sorry…I am 100% a shopping enabler. 😂

Update 8/25/17:

I just received my order and the packaging at first glance is very nice. I love the cobalt blue jewelry box the bracelet came in.

My first impression is that the bracelet is thinner at 5mm and lightweight since it’s made of alumnimim material. I realize I prefer the 7mm for my wrist size (as you can see in the photo below, it is much thinner). Personally it looks too small on my wrist but is still a beautiful piece at a lower price.

The freebie bracelet was a bit disappointing. I mean, it was free with purchase so I can’t really complain. It just looks like a strand with some silver beads. Not something I see myself wearing but it was nice of them to offer it.

The verdict? Unfortunately, this will be going back as it’s not my cup of tea. I prefer the 7mm or medium size bracelets and thought the color would more closely match my silver bracelet. It looks more like a gunmetal gray color. Still a beautiful piece but it’s just up to personal preference. At this price point of $250, I think it’s a great starter piece. I hope this review is helpful. Let me know if you have any questions. The hunt for the next piece to add to my lonely prasiolite bracelet continues!

My Everyday Hair Styling Tool

Sorry, I’ve been a bit MIA. I need to be better at consistently posting on here. Work and weekend projects have been consuming my life buttttttt I have discovered the BEST hair tool for everyday use and wanted to share 🙂

Honestly, before I purchased this hair tool, whatever my hair looked like that morning is how I went to work. If it was REALLY BAD, I put it in a pony tail or bunned it (what can I say? I would rather sleep a few extra minutes before waking up at the buttcrack of dawn).

In my first professional job, my supervisor would say, “dress for the job you want, not the job you have”. As I have gradually moved up the ladder over the years, this saying has etched into my brain. I must say, I LOVE my current job…but either way, dressing professional makes a huge difference.

Remember how your hair looks after getting a blowout at the salon? Trust me, I have tried using a round brush and hairdryer but am not coordinated enough or have the multitasking ability to twirl a brush and blow-dry at the same time. Answer? the John Frieda Hot Air Brush and the best part is that it’s only $25. It’s basically a two in one product that gives you the volume you want but dries at the same time.

I recommend air drying your hair until about 80% before using this tool so that you can get the level of curls/waves you want. I have tried it with completely dried hair, it still does a great job at smoothening and curling the ends. I was skeptical at first but have gotten the hang of using it and have incorporated it into my daily routine (it DOES take some level of coordination…i.e. rolling the hair back and forth but you’ll get used to it). Funny because coworkers have asked me if I recently got a hair cut…. no, it’s just my hair looks put together now that I spare a few extra minutes with this awesome tool. I am not even sponsored but have told all of my girlfriends to buy this product (and they have!).

Perfect Vacation Summer Dresses

I am in full vacay mode – countdown begins! I have a ton of dresses in the back of my closet but I never end up wearing them because I feel too “dressed up” on the weekend (which is why I end up in athlesiure wear – my favorite). Of course, instead of bringing dresses I already own, it’s a vacation which means it’s justifiable to go shopping for new clothes right?

I was at a friend’s beach wedding when I spotted another wedding guest wearing this Hibiscus Floral V-neck Backless Maxi Dress from SheIn.com (yes, I asked her where her dress was from). I loved the simplicity of the style but it was beautiful and was PERFECT for a beach wedding/summer event. I loved the floral print because it reminded me of Japanese cherry blossoms, which reminds me of my hubby (that’s another story).

Honestly, I was skeptical with this website because I don’t normally purchase from websites I’m not familiar with. Like I mentioned in previous posts, most of my wardrobe is from Nordstrom Rack.  I decided to bite the bullet and try it since the maxi was under $25.

Recommendation #1: USE the website’s measurement chart! I typically wear size M in U.S. clothes and according to this chart, I was a size XL in the pink floral and a size L in the black (CRAZY, right?!). I was hesitant but I’m really glad I followed the chart. For some reason, the black option didn’t have an XL option but honestly, the fit of the both are the same on me. As you can see in the photos, both the black and pink floral maxi dresses fit like a GLOVE.

Recommendation #2: Keep in mind that this maxi’s length is pretty long. For reference, I am 5’5″ and I still had to get this tailored for it to perfectly hit the floor (luckily, I have Nordstrom Rack alteration credit so that wasn’t an issue).

Screen Shot 2017-08-07 at 8.59.41 PM

Overall: I love both and am so glad I got both the black and floral options. The black is simple but you can never go wrong with a black dress and the floral one just screams summer. I love how the style is more covered in the front but has a backless side.

Of course, it’s hard not to look around when you’re on a clothes site right? I ended up searching “palm leaf dress” and found this next dress.

Palm Leaf Print Double V Neck Cami Dress $15

Screen Shot 2017-08-07 at 8.59.19 PM

Same recommendation as above, follow the measurement chart. I ordered a size L in both the white and navy blue version and it fits me well.

Overall, I love the palm leaf print because it is perfect for any tropical vacation. It’s double lined and the fabric is very nice. The maxi dress is a lightweight, chiffon like material. As you can see in the photos, the dress fit is looser/flowy.

I think I got lucky on my first order because I’m typically a picky person and rarely love everything in an order. It would be sad if I didn’t because I literally bought doubles of two styles.

2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

It’s the best (sale) time of the yearrrr! The 2017 Nordstrom Anniversary Sale has finally commenced! Everyone who knows me knows my obsession with Nordstrom/Nordstrom Rack. It’s my absolute favorite place to shop for literally everything. #jenlovesnordie

For those Nordie lovers out there, the Early Access sale for Nordstrom cardholders starts on July 13. If you aren’t a card member and want to join the club, sign up to start earning points on purchases and get access to perks (my favorite perk is the alterations credit…and best part? you get reimbursed for it). The bonus of having the card allows avid Nordie shoppers to get first dibs on the anniversary sale before it’s open to the public on July 21. Doesn’t it make you feel like a VIP customer? 🙂

Last year, I spent wayyyy too much money on the sale but it’s because the deals are amazing. Here are my TOP 10 pics from this year’s selections:

Screen Shot 2017-07-17 at 9.41.50 PM

  1. Clarisonic Mia Cleansing System sale $86
If you’ve never tried the Clarisonic skincare system, GET YOURSELF ONE. It is ahhhh-mazing. I personally have sensitive skin and the sonic brush movement leaves you feeling fresh and renewed. No irritation and your face feels squeaky clean (especially after a day’s worth of makeup). I’ve had mine for over two years now and love using it a few times a week. I loved it so much I even gifted one for my mom and sister and they’ve added it to their skincare routine.
  2. Zella Hatha High Waist Crop Leggings sale$33.90–$36.90
I own these Hatha style Zella leggings. I work out multiple times a week but of course, you gotta look cute at the gym. If you look good, you feel good right? 🙂 These are standard black leggings but the fun part is on the backside. It has a mesh detail so show off those calves!
  3. Zella Live in High Wasit Leggings sale $35.90 Leggings
Three words. Perfect “athleisure” wear. I’d say these are comparable to ones from Lulus that cost double, if not triple, the price. Don’t get me wrong, I love Lulu leggings but I also love saving $. I live in these during the fall and winter time (yes, I wear leggings as pants). It’s a thick material so you don’t have to worry about sheerness and really tucks you in at all the right places.  I purchased these in black but this year there’s a nice burgundy option available.
  4.  Sigma Beauty Innovation Duo sale$35
My sister calls this my “artist paint palette” cause looks just like one. Nordstrom had a similar set last year but with an angled, contour brush. Most of my makeup brushes are by Sigma Beauty so I decided to test this out. I love it for deep cleaning my brushes.
  5. Mario Badescu Skin Care sale $32
I just purchased this last weekend after hearing my sister rave about it. For unwanted pimples, I’ll try anything that will instantly zap them overnight. I have yet to try it but I know that one Mario Badescu bottle is ~$17, so this set is a steal!
  6. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel sale $38
I’ve never tried this before but am looking for a moisturizing that can help me control my oily T-zone. It gets out of control during the summer time so I want to give this a a try – even better since you get two items for the price of one!
  7. Burberry Pensham Quilted Jacket sale $499.90
I absolutely LOVE my Burberry quilted jacket. I loved it so much I even got one for my mom and sister so we can all be matching (we’re that family, I know). It’s the perfect jacket during the fall time. This is the type of jacket that makes you look put together no matter what. Who doesn’t want that?
  8. Beauty Blender Makeup Sponge Applicator & Small Cosmetics Bag Set sale $35
Initally, I thought it was stupid to spend this much on a sponge. It’s literally just a sponge. A friend persuaded me to get it for my wedding by saying it’ll give me an “airbrushed” finish. Of course, everyone wants an airbrushed look and I didn’t want to look cakey so I bit the bullet and got it. I must say….she was right. I have to admit, the stupid sponge does work wonders…
  9. Nike Free Focus Flyknit 2 Bionic Training Shoe – Women sale $89.90
All of my gym shoes are by Nike. My favorite styles are the Flyknit and Free 5.0’s.
  10. Picnic Time Cataline Wicker Picnic Basket sale $32.90
Okay, I know this one is completely random but at the same time, it’s a cute idea right? I just asked my hubby for his opinion and he literally said, “but we don’t picnic”. My response was, “well, that’s because we don’t have a cute picnic basket for picnic date nights”.

Love my Fendi Peekaboo!

For my first post, I want to talk about my current designer handbag obsession. I’ve been growing up collecting purses since my teen years and after finding the Fendi Peekaboo, I finally feel like my collection is complete (I can already feel my sister rolling her eyes….because I say that way too often but to my defense, I’ve been using the bag ever since I got it in March).

By the time I started eyeing the Peekaboo style, I missed Fendi’s collection with the Zucca print lining (it’s the one with the original Fendi logo print). I’ve been talking about the Peekaboo style for at least two years but thought the retail prices were way too steep ($3-5k depending on style/lining/leather type/price increases etc).

Here’s how I randomly found my Peekaboo. It was definitely meant to be because I happened to be looking around on Fashionphile and saw the EXACT combination/size I wanted.  They had listed a Fendi Goatskin Zucca Peekaboo in navy blue in “excellent condition” for about half the price of retail (honestly, it sounded too good to be true). I’ve never purchased from the pre-loved market so I was a bit hesitant but my hubby told me to just try it since Fashionphile has a 100% refund policy within 30 days as long as you don’t remove their security bag tag (as they say, remove the tag, keep the bag). It also goes through their internal extensive authentication process for peace of mind.

I didn’t want to risk someone else scooping up bag so I bit the bullet and decided to get it. My sweet husband actually ended up buying it for me as an early birthday gift. It arrived in about a week or so and to my surprise, it was even BETTER than I had anticipated. Trust me, I am a verrrry picky person and want my handbags to be as close to perfect as possible. I did an unboxing with my hubby and even though the bag was from the 2014 collection, it was in spectacular condition. I was so happy with my purchase and first shopping experience from the pre-loved market.

I’ve been using the bag non-stop since I got it. I love how classy the style is (reminds some people of the Hermes Kelly). I typically gravitate towards bags with optional uses. I can hold the bag, wear the bag on the crook of my arm, or cross-body. It has two large compartments divided by a partition in the middle. Apparently, the side with the zipper is considered the “front” of the bag. The quality and craftsmanship of this bag is amazing. Honestly, I feel like it’s even better than some of my other designer bags. I also love how understated it can be because you can close the bag on both sides with the twist lock. I love it completely open though….since it’s called the PEEKaboo.

Apologies if I’m rambling in this post. Bear with me as I get used to the blog life! @stylejenerator.com
